2011, Study & design for the replacement of the old aviary

Realisation 2013 by Hartmann AG Architekturbüro, Wildegg

The aviary at Wildegg Castle has enjoyed many years of popularity. Due to the new animal protection standards and the consequent need to invest in the existing facilities, friends of the aviary founded a supporting association to ensure the continued existence of the facility - which ultimately resulted in a new structure.

The proposed and ultimately realized enclosure is divided into a number of sections by its folded course, which in part allows for greater depth of the spaces, but also provides visitors with different viewing angles from the central courtyard.

The new height required for some of the larger birds meant that the structure had to be elevated. Considerations for monument protection has led to position a tent-like structure set back along the castle's rock, so that it is not visible from the outside.
